Creativeness

What exactly do you class as creative??
I mean you, personally?

Everybody has a different view on it, some think its drama, some music, some just purely art!
What about inventors? cooking? problem solving?

In school, problem solving exercises are seen as academic, but are they really? surely to solve the problem, they have to find a way of doing it, thus meaning they have to use their creative sides in order to think of a solution.

Take our speed painting sessions, its a great example of showing how if twenty people have one word to draw about, every single person comes up with something different. Each person is using their own creative skills, or improving on their skills (like im trying too). Not one of our pictures are the same because we interpret things, or think of things different ways.

It works the same with creativity. Everybody thinks of it differently. Some people are good at it,some mediocre and some just cannot do it what so ever, but then they excel on the academic side.

There are so many limitations, and yet at the same time we have so much freedom. Mondays, when were set the 'horrible' one day projects as i like to call them, for me there is too much freedom! I don't know what to do with myself and with my blank piece of paper which i am supposed to fill. I prefer to have a certain amount of freedom mixed with limitations. Like when you get a subject matter and a brief of what its supposed to be.

Everybody's interpretation will still be different even within those limits. Or somebody says to you create an environment using max which includes a building, vegetation and is set during autumn.

Everyone would have different outcomes of the same brief.

I find this very difficult to speak about. Theres so much to say, i don't know where to start and what to say on it exactly.

As i have been saying before. Schools concentrate on academic subjects rather than the creative ones which lets face it, nothing would be available to us if they were not focused on at some point, but do you ever wonder if people are being pushed too far?

I was just rereading my posts and others from our class and it made me think back on education and how creativity is pushed to the bottom ranks. Sophia said in her blog that (a ball park figure) almost 5,000,000 people in the UK are undereducated.

I dont know about you guys when you were at school, but as you got pushed harder into learning and coursework and your GCSE exams, more and more people became rebels and truants?

Well, they did in my school. This links in with the problem of having so many unemployed people an companies being understaffed. People don't have the qualification's to be employed thus raising the unemployment rates, but if they don't have qualification's because they played truant, whos fault is it?

The individuals fault for being a rebel, or the schools for putting way too much pressure on a young child who felt they couldn't cope, thus feeling that was their only option? Now if you ask me,somebody needs to solve this problem.

Companies need to think of ways of affording to train people, so as to keep their employments flowing and help reduce the rate of unemployed people. If they were CREATIVE and came up with solutions to the problems, we wouldn't be in this situation.

See......
Creative problem solving....
there it is again!
That word people tend to dismiss....
Creativity/Creative/Imagination or whichever word you prefer!

Thinking about Games and the type of course we do made me begin to think about games which done involve a console or a tv screen of some sort. I'm talking about the real active game you play in the playground as kids:
Bulldog
It/Tag
Stuck In The Mud
Whats the time Mr. Wolf?
Kiss Chase
Runouts! (used to love that game, had a habit of hiding on a garage roof)

and things like that. Not the ones we play in our spare time! Who thought of those? who created them? They didn't come from Science now did they! (even tho i have previously argued that some aspects of todays 'Science' an be creative)But i think you will find, they originated in a childs imagination! Yes, a small creative child's imagination! its a problem solver for boredom. If those sorts of games and imaginations didn't exist, could you imagine the school playground?

All the poor little mites sitting around in silence on the floor. Just sitting or standing in one place, doing nothing except taking in thier surroundings and maybe pulling the occasional funny face at their friends. HOW BORING WOULD THAT BE!!!! where would thier energy release come from, their activeness?

Sports!? Where did they come from? who created athletics, who discovered swimming, who thought 'hey lets make a funny shaped ball, make the rule you can only throw it forwards and lets tackle each other to the ground as aggressively as we can'?

who would think of those things in a purely academic world without creativity being supported and focused upon as an equal to all the useless shit were taught in school. After spending years learning to speak French, learning what chemicals reacted with what and learning about the French revolution and the Tudors, ive never used any of it.

All be it, i did find some of the subjects interesting, but no matter how much fun they were or how much of a laugh they were with the classes i was in, i never found myself being creative. I wasn't an academic school child,i was more creative (back then i was doing ok with my art, then i came here, met Chris and it all went to pots! ha ha only joking, its just a different ball game i know that) I also have never found that much of that information has come in use full.

Debating in class.....creative or a waste of time? Your never going to change anything, especially somebody's opinion. So what does that fall under in your books guys?
Im not quite sure, its interesting to find these things out, you know, other peoples opinions and then maybe reconsider your own. But how is it creative??

Its getting late, Im getting tired. I shall continue this later.
