Good and bad......again!

Good and bad applies to everything every day, given a personal reflection and opinion.

Creativity, for example, thinking about what I spent a good 12 weeks writing about, can again be seen by some as a good thing and some as a bad thing. To an art teacher or lecturer or an artist themselves, creativity is everything.

To others who don't necessarily understand art or have any interest in it think that it should be squandered and is seen as a bad thing. Teachers of academic subjects are a prime example of this.

Young children nowadays are being discouraged from creativity, thus meaning that because their efforts are being directed elsewhere we lose the creativity and then because no practise or effort has been directed towards art skills, art can be seen to be 'bad' because of its technical structure.

According to my flatmate Debbie, to make a piece of art good in her eyes, it has to have some complexity or depth to the piece, and isn't taken at face value. And doing some prior research on the artist before looking at a piece of work helps because it guides you to judge how well they have fulfilled the aim within the piece of work created. As well as to find the inner depth and meaning behind their specific art piece in question.

Debbie also commented that being able to see the individual brush strokes and technical ability can also help to show how good a piece of work is, such as the classical art pieces of artists such as John Constable.

I, on the oither hand would require colour, shape and imagination for a piece of work to be seen as 'good'. I can appreciate the time, effort and abilioty which has gone into classic works or art, however my personal perference would signify to me that a piece by Picasso, Dali or Emin is more interesting because of the creativity involved and the way they have manipulated existing things.
There is no wrong in good or bad according to personal preference, its when it comes to a technical head that there is a right or wrong which consequently creates good and bad.
